Priorities For Our Leaders
It takes great leadership to "Make Jesus Famous" in a church setting. Leaders lead so that followers can follow. The better the leadership, the smoother the journey is! Therefore we have some very strong values that we emphasize for all leaders.
First, without question, our leaders are involved on a personal level with the processes that the church strives to see at work in all believers:
- The Decision to Follow Jesus - not only do we expect that our leaders have made the decision to follow Jesus but that they continue in that decision to follow Jesus for a life-time.
- The Quest for Spiritual Maturity - Spiritual leaders should demonstrate spiritual maturity and be able to a coach it in others.
- A Strong Commitment to TFH Church Family - all leaders are commited to the local family in prayer, finances and time.
- A Calling to Serve - every leader is first a servant. No one is considered a leader who doesn't serve. "Decision Making" is not a form of service! Our leaders are also our best servants.
- The Mission of "Making Jesus Famous" - leaders live the types of lives that make Jesus famous, and are engaged in intentional conversations and activities that do the same.
With that, we also value the following in our leaders:
- spiritual leadership - this is the most critical quality for all leaders at TFH. To summarize, it is the ability to have a relationship with God while having a relationship with people, and the ability to recognize what it is that He wants to do in peoples lives. It requires the leader to be able to identify and communicate that journey. It's is recognizing where people are and where God wants them to be, and the effort required to help them journey to that destination. It is the function of a Biblical priest: grabbing on to the hand of God and the hand of man, and bringing the two together.
- full of the Spirit - one of the Biblical litmus tests for leadership is the operation of the Holy Spirit in their lives, and this a priority of TFH as well. The manifestation of the Spirit's activity takes form in various ways and produces fruit of various types, but it is a critical component as spiritual leaders recognize that ability alone is not enough to make a spiritual impact.
- pure motives - people have many different motives for getting involved with leadership. It is critical that our leaders are motivated by the desire to help others to draw closer to Christ.
- humility - Jesus is the famous one. No leader, regardless of talent, charisma or following, should ever carry himself in a way that takes the focus off of Him.
- hospitality - every leader needs to be friendly, but especially mindful and friendly to strangers and newcomers. While leaders have friends, it is critical that leaders understand their role to welcome others at all gatherings.
- influence - all leaders demonstrate a healthy influence within the family and in the community. A leader without influence is simply a follower with a title.
- conflict resolution - like any family, every church family experiences conflict. And like any family, family leaders are the ones best equipped to resolve conflict (theirs and others). We believe firmly in scriptural means of resolving conflict and expect that leaders will operate within that context, and help others to do the same.
